No, I didn't go to Maryland

...but as Cassie said, if you live in New York you get to meet everybody anyway. You're already going to know everything I'm about to say from Cassie's blog. She blogs in the middle of the night and scoops everybody. Plus I'm way late on reporting about Friday's knitting, but, hey... I'm telling you now, right? That's got to count for something.

So yeah. Friday Norma and Carolyn rolled through town on their way to Maryland. Look, evidence. We all met up at The Point. There was knitting of socks and eating of sugar. There was a Crystal Palace tragedy. It was a full day. (I'm not sure why Mindy looks angry. Maybe I had just accidentally kicked her. That's my red-socked leg. You don't want to see what the rest of me looked like in that photo.)

Yesterday Rachael and Lala came to visit on their way home from Maryland. Okay...technically Brooklyn is not on the way home to Oakland from Maryland, but I'm glad they made the extra schlep. I've missed my Rachael terribly and I was dying to meet Lala.

The knitters gathered at my house last night. The dogs were beside themselves--they thought everyone was there just to see them, of course. Here's everyone. You know the names by now, yes?

(Okay, okay. Links, but only for those not linked above. You don't really expect me to link TWICE, do you? Scroll up, for crying out loud.) Cassie, Jackie, Iris, Rachael, Lala, Emily, Em, Anne.

More photos! Here are Rachael and Lala.

And here's Jackie with her miles and miles of st st.

Rach and La headed off to the airport this morning. Today I turn in my thesis and then go to my last lit class probably ever. There are student readings two nights this week and on Thursday my last workshop definitely ever. A week from tonight is my last mfa obligation. Crazy. Is it just me, or did these two years zip by at an alarming rate?

You managed to put up not one, but TWO photos of me that did not make me cringe. You are the master!

Thanks for last night, what a good time it was!

Okay I absolutely love the picture of the group shot at your home with the dog sitting on the couch with everyone. too cute. My in-laws dog is not good around other people until she gets to know them, one time while we were watching her I wanted to have a group of friends over for chilli because my husband was out of town and I was bored. So as everyone came through the front door I handed them a dog biscuit with peanut butter smeared on it and made them give it to the dog, then they were all her best friends from that point forward. Dogs sure can be funny.

No, it's because I've just realized that I HATE the three inches of ribbing I've just finished and must rip it all out. Not to mention that I appear to have temporarily traded necks with The Rock.

I'm so jealous! I wish I could have been there! Hopefully next year, I'll be able to meet everyone.

See you next week!

It looks like you had a great time this weekend from start to finish.

I hope the comprehensive exam went well on Saturday and I'm sure the rest of your requirements will end well as well. Congratulations on being very nearly done.

Yup, New York weekend, A to Zed. That Rachael is the best mugger I've ever seen. I don't mean she mugs people as in beats and robs them - I mean she mugs for the camera. But I think you already knew that. (Cari, what is it about you that brings out the weirdo comments from me, anyway?!) Miss ya already. Your place looks fab, btw. Digging the red sofa - awesome!

I'd swear that you just started that MFA.

Its over? Congrats!

Well, I guess taking a picture of the back of my head is a failsafe way to have it be semi-flattering. Hmmm...

Thanks for the great night and wonderful group gathering.

I can't believe you're finished--I mean it really took me by surprise. I was reading here when you started grad school. Weird.

Oh, and congratulations!

Grpmph. Here I am, causing myself emotional damage.
Congratulations on being done with school! That was worth stopping by.

Congratulations Cari!

P.S. I really wish you had been at Maryland Sheep and Wool, although if I'd gotten to meet you and Em on top of all the other folks, I may have gone insane from the happy. Isn't there some festival up near ya'll sometime in the not-too-distant future?

Hey! Congrats on school being done! Thesis finished too, or is that another year?

So sorry I missed you guys on Friday - hopefully I'll catch you all at The Point the next time you meet.

Waaaah! I can't believe I had to miss Friday and Monday. Sigh. I'll see you next week, though, barring any unforeseen craziness. Frankly, I think I've hit my craziness quota for ummm, a while.

It was nice to finally meet you on Friday. I really enjoy reading your blog.

Wow, look at everybody there together! Sorry I missed it. You all look fabulous. xo

I can't believe that is a New York apartment! Very swell. A room full of knitters is a lovely thing.

Congrats on the end of your MFA! Breathe a huge sigh of relief and sleep in, please.

looks like so much fun! i'm sorry i missed it all.
so, thesis in, last workshop...less than a week away from the end -- woo hoo!

Do not delay, run to the admissions office. Sign up for a PHD--go to Law School-- do something. As long as you are a student in any way, you can avoid REAL LIFE. REAL LIFE is to be avoided at all costs. Without school, there is no spring break. No Summer break. No sympathy because you are in summer school. Do you really want to be a full-fledged adult? Even with dogs. Even with Italian Greyhounds.

Oh! A lot of my favorite knitters in there. But I couldn't help noticing how FABULOUS your house looks. You are the decorating queen!

Posted by: Becky

Sorry to get off-topic but... I would be awfully interested to know the floorplan of your house? Is it one room wide? Two rooms? How deep? How many stories? Sorry! Home design is my other passion! And congrats on the MFA.

two years goes by before you know it. congratulations on the mfa! anyone who can outdo wallace stevens (at least when it comes to clapotis-based poetry) deserves it!
and now for a really selfish question: did you do any extra repeats of the straight section for your (very very lovely) clapotis, or just follow the pattern? I've added 4 repeats and it still doesn't look long enough.

And now back to you!
