First pattern for sale!

Okay, folks, here it is. The first pattern offered for sale here. I hope you like it! There are several more already in the works--sweaters, sweater vests, and more accessories. I'd love to have your feedback on this pattern, as well as hear what you'd like to see for future patterns. What's missing from the babyknits world?

I want to offer patterns that are cute and functional. In my house and with my baby, this means choosing machine washable yarns whenever possible. Because it's also important to me to dress him in natural fibers as much as possible, I used Knit Picks Swish for this pattern. It was my first time using Swish and I absolutely loved it. It's my new default baby yarn.

Buttons on babies make me a bit nervous, so you won't be seeing too many of them here. I've opted for a Velcro solution for this pattern that works really well.

And now, without further ado, I offer you the Acorn Hat.

A baby hat has to be cute, sure. But cute only goes so far with baby hats. They also need to keep little cheeks and ears warm and—above all—STAY ON.

The Acorn Hat is a fast, easy knit that covers ears and cheeks, and fastens with a simple sew-on Velcro coin as a safer alternative to swallowable buttons. It’s knit in a super-soft, machine-washable 100% wool yarn. Because even people who drool all over their knitwear and chew bits of sweet potato puree into the stitches deserve natural fibers.

The pattern includes four sizes: 0-3 months [6 months, 12 months, 24 months]

I love it! Babyknits suggestion: baby socks that stay on! I'm still searching for a sock that will stay on as she crawls about the house. I've tweaked and tweaked to no avail...any suggestions or great pattern in the works?

I just placed my order, but don't be weirded out when you see that my paypal account is in my former husband's surname. i've never gotten around to changing it with paypal and ebay. Must do that soon. It's gorgeous, and I already have two babies for whom to make it.

Super cute- both of them! His eyes are so beautiful. I made a sweater for my nephew-in-progress (due any day now) in Swish and I LOVED it. It's so nice and soft! All winter projects for my own baby-in-progress will be in Swish, too. It's great stuff.

Have you washed the hat at all yet? I've been thinking about the Swish for a baby blanket, and have heard some iffy things about how it looks after a couple of washes.

Wow! that is just like.. the cutest thing ever..
I havent yet attempted to knit a hat, but i have knit socks, well not true, I knit a preme hat.
My sister in law is having her second baby; a girl.... I am only 13 so i dont have the money to buy this pattern :-( I would lovvveee to know of any good *free* baby hat patterns, so if you have any, pass em on?

Oh good lord, that is adorable! My baby was born on 1/31 and I won't be able to knit this in time for the remainder of this winter but maybe the 12 month size for her 1st birthday!

Love the hat! Must rethink decision not to have another child...
On socks that stay on, I have two thoughts:
1. Get shoes that stay on, and the socks will stay on. My son wore Shoo Shoos, similar to Robeez.
2. They outgrow the sock-pulling-off stage fairly quickly, at least mine did. Now he has other fish to fry.

Oh lordie, that is cute. No boys in my knitting queue at present, but I'm sure I'll be a customer sooner or later. Your "model" is very appealing with his big brown eyes and pink cheeks. I'm with you on the need for washable wool for babies and kids, and I'm also a big fan of lining with polar fleece so the wind doesn't get through. (It's easier than making a knitted lining like I did with the kitty hat.) Congratulations on your new venture!

The baby and hat are both adorable! My own son, now 11, is unfortunately too big and too "cool" to wear it, but I bought the pattern to knit for my cousin and his wife who are expecting their first child any day now. I'll have to get cracking if I'm to finish it in time. It will make a pleasant change from the endless scarves that I seem to be making this winter.

Gorgeous pattern Cari. Has thumper worked out how to undo velcro yet? Bella is fascinated by it, looks across with a very cheeky grin just before she rips it apart and takes off whatever was velcroed on!

Cute! You weren't joking when you said you'd deliver on the cute and functional. I love Swish too--I used it to make a pile of baby gifts last year. I love that the ears are covered--I've been told by gift recipients that a lot of the fruit hats I make don't really cover their ears well. Great model you have too!
