Grateful that I'm not a vegan

In Utopia, your neighbors turn up on your doorstep with eggs they've just gathered from their chicken coop.

Aren't they beautiful? The white ones aren't actually white. They're a very pale blue. I've never had eggs quite this fresh before, and I've certainly never before had eggs from chickens I know personally. These eggs will be dinner tonight, along with some steamed broccoli and this week's sourdough.

Eggs are so beautiful when they're like that. And I think blue ones are the prettiest of all. I've had fresh eggs a few times and felt that they tasted quite different from grocery-store ones.

We kept hens when I was a kid - the eggs were so wonderfully delicious. The yolks were vivid and stood up from the white, and the shells were hard and thick... mmmm.

I'm *this* close to wanting to get some laying hens. But instead, I go to my local stores and get eggs (ungraded, unclassified -- I love that) that look just like those. Didn't they taste WONDERFUL? (as I'm sure you've already consumed them)

very nice! We occasionally get eggs from my brother-in-law's farm. Not often enough, though.

If you get more, there's a great recipe in animal, vegetable, miracle for a savory bread pudding that is incredible. I mad it last week with sourdough, and it was really, really good. It does use milk, though. Is Thumper still lactose-intolerant?

We've been all about the soft boiled eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner lately in our house. They are heavenly.

And...they might spurn a collection in vintage egg cups. Bonus!

Oh yeah, there is nothing like fresh eggs! Our neighbors have chickens and we've benefited from that, too. We have an old pump house on our property that will become a chicken coop of our very own at some point over the next year. Whee! Love them eggs.

Great eggs. Great neigbors! Let's all live in Utopia. BTW - I hope you're feeling better. Have you ever tried rubbing an ice cube on your sprouting cold sores? I find it's the BEST remedy. It nips mine in the bud. Works like a charm every time - and no DRUGS.
